This is a brief presentation of the climate investment programme that the Västernorrland County Council operated during the period 2005-2008. Energy-efficiency measures have been taken within several areas during the period of the programme and these are presented individually. The work continues even after 2008 and the targets that were set apply until 2010.

Since the industrial revolution, our energy consumption has grown exponentially, putting a huge pressure on the fragile natural resources. Massive urbanization, rapid increase in the global population, longer life expectancy due to spectacular medical advances, exceptionally high living standards in some parts of the world and massive traveling have disproportionately increased our planet’s appetite for energy.
